Joint Council 26

Union Organizer

Primary location will be Cincinnati, Ohio
(covering Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky regional jurisdictions)

Job Title : Union Organizer
Organization: International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT), Joint Council 26
Primary Location: Cincinnati, Ohio (Covering Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky regional jurisdictions)
Position Type: Full-Time (Exempt, including irregular hours and weekends)
Salary Range: $72,000 – $80,000/year (Commensurate with field organizing experience and current IBT Joint Council bylaws)
Benefits: Union benefit package options, Teamster 401(k), paid time off, and a monthly vehicle allowance.

Position Overview
Teamsters Joint Council 26 is seeking a dedicated, high-energy Union Organizer to lead strategic expansion campaigns across Southwestern Ohio and Northern Kentucky. The ideal candidate will work directly with Joint Council 26, Local Unions, and the IBT Organizing Department to build shop-floor worker power in core regional industries specifically: logistics, warehouse distribution, manufacturing, air freight hubs, beverage, and public service sectors.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Targeted Site "Blitzing" & Gate Work: Conduct aggressive outreach at unorganized regional worksites. This includes engaging workers during early-morning, late-night, and/or weekend shift changes at facility gates, warehouses, and transit hubs.
  • Worker Assessment & House Calls: Conduct targeted home visits and one-on-one meetings to build trust, assess workplace grievances, and inoculate non-union workers against sophisticated employer anti-union campaigns.
  • Internal Committee Development: Identify and train organic worker leaders across diverse shift schedules. Establish robust, worker-led internal organizing committees capable of driving NLRB (National Labor Relations Board) card-signing campaigns from the inside.
  • Campaign Management: Coordinate campaign logistics across state lines, navigating different regional employer landscapes and labor environments between Ohio and Kentucky.
  • NLRB Regulatory Tracking: Assist in preparing, filing, and managing election documentation, unfair labor practice (ULP) charges, and authorization cards under the strict compliance of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA).
  • Community & Coalition Building: Build partnerships with regional labor councils, community organizations, and faith-based groups to support active organizing fights.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 1–3 years of labor organizing experience (or equivalent experience as an active IBT shop steward, member-organizer, or community campaign director). Direct familiarity with NLRB election procedures is highly preferred.
  • Stamina & Schedule Flexibility: This is not a 9-to-5 job. Candidates must be willing to work irregular and extended hours, including early mornings and late nights, to align with 2nd- & 3rd-shift workplace schedules.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to build immediate rapport with workers from diverse backgrounds and the ability to articulate the value of a collective bargaining agreement clearly.
  • Mobility: A valid driver’s license and a reliable, insured vehicle are mandatory due to daily field travel across the Southwestern Ohio & Northern Kentucky jurisdictional territory.
  • Mission Alignment: A deep commitment to worker democracy, social and economic justice, and aggressive labor movement strategies.
